Specialized Lab Tests
Most of my favorite tests can be
ordered through my lab store.
My favorite mycotoxin test for your body
must be ordered from the lab.
Test Your Home For Toxic Mold
The Dust Test Mold DNA Test:
This is my favorite lab for running an ERMI test in your home (or office).
The sampling devices are appropriately sterilized and sealed to prevent contamination.
They use a high quality lab.
The reports provide an enormous amount more information for interpreting the results than other labs
They will go over your results with you on the phone.
Analytics Global 11 Mycotoxin Panel:
This is the most accurate home mycotoxin test I have found. I have been using this test for years to complete the ERMI test, which has limitations (they both do).
The sampling devices are appropriately sterilized and sealed to prevent contamination.
They the highest level certifications for their lab.
The reports are super easy to understand: either the mycotoxin is present and a threat to your health or it’s not present.

Duster
During the process of mold remediation, you will need to do what’s called a “Small Particle Cleaning” of your belongings.
That means you will be doing a very specific process of deep cleaning every item you own to remove all remaining mold spores, fragments, and mycotoxins that settled on that item over time.
An electronic duster can be invaluable for helping to decontaminate delicate electronics like keyboards, cameras, and others with finicky little buttons you won’t be able to get to with a vacuum or damp-wipe.
Because it pushes air rather than sucking it in, this should always be done OUTSIDE.
Desiccant Packets
During the process of mold remediation, you will need to do what’s called a “Small Particle Cleaning” of your belongings.
That means you will be doing a very specific process of deep cleaning every item you own to remove all remaining mold spores, fragments, and mycotoxins that settled on that item over time. This goes for clothes and other fabrics that can go in the washing machine, solid wood, glass, metal, and plastic items.
Once something has been cleaned, you want to put it in air-tight plastic bins right away to keep it from getting recontaminated while your remediation finishes or while you figure out moving to a mold-safe home. Before sealing up a bin, it’s best to put one or a few of these desiccant packets in the bin to make sure no moisture builds up inside.
Some people will put certain items in storage that cannot be decontaminated while they finish healing, and then come back to see if they can tolerate the items once they are well again. This keeps those items from recontaminating other things while they’re in storage. I would add these desiccant packets to all of those bins as well.

EC3 Cleanser
During the process of mold remediation, you will need to wash your pets to decontaminate their fur of mold spores, fragments, and toxins.
For this purpose, I like to use either EC3 head-to-toe cleanser.
EC3 is a citrus seed extract product, which is anti-fungal. It also has almost no scent, so it tends to work very well for those with multiple chemical sensitivity to clean their own bodies as well as their pets.
If you struggle with any fungal skin infections, this may help that too!
EC3 Laundry Additive
During the process of mold remediation, you will need to wash your clothes and all fabric items very thoroughly to remove all mold, mold fragments, and mycotoxins from them.
For this purpose, I like to use either Borax or EC3 laundry additive (or both) along with my usual detergent to help decontaminate them.

This bulk container of borax was really useful when we were going through so much of it during and after remediation.
EC3 Wipes
During the process of mold remediation, you will need to do what’s called a “Small Particle Cleaning” both of your belongings, and your space.
As part of a small particle cleaning, you will need to damp wipe every item and surface to remove remaining mold spores, fragments, and mycotoxins that are left behind after the removal of the water-damaged building materials.
I like to use microfiber cloths for wiping down the big surface areas of the home (the ceilings, walls, and floors).
Individual items (like wood, glass, or metal furniture) are often easier to do with disposal EC3 Wipes. Cloths must be thrown away as soon as all wiping surfaces look dirty to prevent spreading the contamination around.
I also LOVE EC3 wipes for basic cleaning upkeep. I love that they have almost no smell, are all natural, non-irritating, non-damaging to any material tested, cleaned surfaces dry super fast, and they don’t leave streaks or soapy residue!

I like to use microfiber cloths for wiping down the big surface areas of the home (the ceilings, walls, and floors). This pack of 100 makes it really easy to have plenty of cloths to get through the whole cleaning without stopping. Cloths must be changed out as soon as all wiping surfaces are dirty so that contamination isn’t just spread around.

Sealed HEPA Vacuum Cleaner
Whether you’re dealing with a mold event in your home or not, a sealed HEPA vacuum cleaner is a must to keep the particulate levels in the air down - including mold, allergens, dust, pollen, dander, smoke, odors, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, and biotoxins.
Some of these particulates, like dust and dander, are food for mold and bacteria that you don’t want to overgrow in your home.
Sealed HEPA vacuum cleaners are not common. Most HEPA vacuum cleaners do not have true HEPA filters. Most HEPA vacuum cleaners also aren’t sealed. That means that as the particles come in, a lot of them leak back out through cracks and seams in the casing of the vacuum.
This is one of the few affordable sealed HEPA vacuum cleaners on the market.
If you have just found out you have mold in your home, and you need a truly effective vacuum cleaner to help keep dust and mold counts down while you work towards remediation, this is a great choice. Because vacuum cleaners move a lot of air, but a HEPA filter is not small enough to trap mycotoxins, you will need to throw out your vacuum cleaner once remediation finishes and get a new one (to avoid contaminating your now clean space). For that reason, don’t get an expensive one!
If you are post-remediation but still waiting for test results to clear your house as mold-safe, a new one of these vacuums is a great choice to get you through that period (and beyond).
Once your environment is cleared as mold-safe, you can consider investing in a more expensive if you want one that will last longer.
