Specialized Lab Tests

Most of my favorite tests can be
ordered through my lab store.

My favorite mycotoxin test for your body
must be ordered from the lab.

Test Your Home For Toxic Mold

The Dust Test Mold DNA Test:
This is my favorite lab for running an ERMI test in your home (or office).

  • The sampling devices are appropriately sterilized and sealed to prevent contamination.

  • They use a high quality lab.

  • The reports provide an enormous amount more information for interpreting the results than other labs

  • They will go over your results with you on the phone.

Analytics Global 11 Mycotoxin Panel:
This is the most accurate home mycotoxin test I have found. I have been using this test for years to complete the ERMI test, which has limitations (they both do).

  • The sampling devices are appropriately sterilized and sealed to prevent contamination.

  • They the highest level certifications for their lab.

  • The reports are super easy to understand: either the mycotoxin is present and a threat to your health or it’s not present.

Miele Sealed HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

A sealed HEPA vacuum cleaner is a must to keep the particulate levels in the air down - including mold, allergens, dust, pollen, dander, smoke, odors, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, and biotoxins.

Some of these particulates, like dust and dander, are food for mold and bacteria that you don’t want to overgrow in your home.

Sealed HEPA vacuum cleaners are not common. Most HEPA vacuum cleaners do not have true HEPA filters. Most HEPA vacuum cleaners also aren’t sealed. That means that as the particles come in, a lot of them leak back out through cracks and seams in the casing of the vacuum.

This is one of the fancier, long-standing brands of sealed HEPA vacuum cleaners on the market.

I WOULD NOT buy this vacuum cleaner if you just found out your have a mold problem in your home or anytime before remediation and post-testing has been completed. You need to get to the point where you house has been deemed mold-safe before you consider investing in a high-price machine like this.

Once your environment is cleared as mold-safe, you can consider investing in a more expensive sealed HEPA vacuum like this if you want one that will last longer than the cheaper brand I recommend on my site.

Note! Not all Miele models utilize HEPA filtration, so make sure you’re looking at the models that do, like this one.

Sealed HEPA Vacuum Cleaner

Whether you’re dealing with a mold event in your home or not, a sealed HEPA vacuum cleaner is a must to keep the particulate levels in the air down - including mold, allergens, dust, pollen, dander, smoke, odors, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, and biotoxins.

This is one of the few affordable sealed HEPA vacuum cleaners on the market.

If you have just found out you have mold in your home, and you need a truly effective vacuum cleaner to help keep dust and mold counts down while you work towards remediation, this is a great choice. Because vacuum cleaners move a lot of air, but a HEPA filter is not small enough to trap mycotoxins, you will need to throw out your vacuum cleaner once remediation finishes and get a new one (to avoid contaminating your now clean space). For that reason, don’t get an expensive one!

If you are post-remediation but still waiting for test results to clear your house as mold-safe, a new one of these vacuums is a great choice to get you through that period (and beyond).

Once your environment is cleared as mold-safe, you can consider investing in a more expensive if you want one that will last longer.

Under Counter Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier

Clean water is an essential foundation of good health that I require all my patients to adhere to.

Some water supplies in the US have an obscene amount of toxins in them today, even after they go through the water-treatment facility. Some even have microscopic parasites in them. This was a common problem when I lived in Portland, Oregon.

This is my current favorite, affordable, reverse osmosis water purifier for a plumbed-in under-counter option for unlimited RO water. It’s also tankless, so less concern for leaks! And the filters are easy to change and reasonably priced.

It is properly NSF 58 certified to the reverse osmosis standard.

Countertop Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier

Clean water is an essential foundation of good health that I require all my patients to adhere to.

Some water supplies in the US have an obscene amount of toxins in them today, even after they go through the water-treatment facility. Some even have microscopic parasites in them. This was a common problem when I lived in Portland, Oregon.

A lot of my patients don’t want something permanently installed for clean drinking water or they’re renters.

This countertop reverse osmosis filter is my current favorite for removing the greatest amount of impurities in a countertop purifier.

It is properly NSF 58 certified to the reverse osmosis standard.

We have personally had two of these in our home for over a year now, and they’re still working perfectly! Filter changes are easy and not expensive.

Red Light Battery-Powered Alarm Clock

I am a HUGE fan of avoiding blue light exposure at night. The studies support that blue light exposure after dark suppresses melatonin production, so you’re likely to have sleep trouble.

Normal LED lightbulbs you have in your house and all devices with screens (TV, cellphone, tablet, computer) emit a substantial amount of blue light, enough to suppress melatonin and disturb sleep. Most alarm clocks do too!

This has been my trusty blue-light-free alarm clock on my nightstand for many years. The bonus is that it’s battery powered, so you can easily travel with it, and the batteries last forever.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

I am a HUGE fan of avoiding blue light exposure at night. The studies support that blue light exposure after dark suppresses melatonin production, so you’re likely to have sleep trouble.

Normal LED lightbulbs you have in your house and all devices with screens (TV, cellphone, tablet, computer) emit a substantial amount of blue light, enough to suppress melatonin and disturb sleep.

I use a no-blue light after dark policy, and it has REALLY helped my sleep, but if that’s too intense for you, I would at least avoid blue light after 8pm.

To make it so that I can be around normal lights and devices at night, I have some trusty blue light-blocking glasses.

This is my favorite, affordable bundle of blue-light blocking glasses. No, they’re not stylish, but the wrap-around style is best for blocking light coming at your face from all angles.

These particular glasses have been tested by a military-grade optics lab to verify that they block blue light in the spectrum needed to preserve melatonin production.

So what’s in the bundle:

  1. A daytime pair of glasses for sun protection

  2. A darker orange color for early evening protection

  3. A green color for full-blue light blocking for nighttime

Radiofrequency EMF Meter

This is the radiofrequency meter that I have personally used to check my home for sneaky sources of RF radiation, and with it, I was able to get my exposure down within a normal range.

With it, you can Detect, Read And Measure EMF radiation From 200 MHZ to 8 GHZ, which will pickup most of the manmade sources of RF radiation.

  • Some of the more common sources the meter can detect:

    • Cell towers

    • Cell phone and smartphone emissions

    • Cordless home phones

    • Smart Door Bells and Cameras

    • Alexa and Google Home

    • Printers

    • Appliances

    • Wireless speakers

    • Wireless routers (both 2.4 and 5 GHz) or WAP

    • Bluetooth devices

    • Smart meter emissions

    • Baby monitors

    • Wireless in Your car

    • laptops and computers on WiFi and/or using Cell data

    • Microwave oven-for leaks and normal use

    • Wireless headphones

The main frequency band not measured by this device is that of 5G towers.

This meter is really easy to use and lasts forever. Mine is easily over 5 years old now.

EMF Blocking Cellphone Bag

Did you know that cellphone radiation has negative health effects?

Yea, the science on the negative health impacts of RF (radiofrequency) radiation is real and however inconvenient, I suggest you not ignore it. It doesn’t just affect “sensitive people” who can “feel it”. It’s affecting your biology whether you know it or not.

Because of this, I generally keep my cellphone on airplane mode when it’s not in use during the day. I’m an even bigger stickler about limiting EMF radiation exposure at night because I sleep so much better without it.

With the newer generation apple phones (and maybe androids too?), they can (on their own) turn airplane mode off and even turn the phone back on even if you turned it off. This was happening to me a lot with my newest phone, and I finally researched it, and found out that yes, the cellular network can turn your phone back on to push updates to it when it was previously off. Once it’s on for that purpose, all the signals go out and come through as normal.

So, to solve this problem, I turn my phone off and put it in this bag at night. Since it cannot connect to the cellphone network or wifi, it cannot turn itself back on, and I get no “whoopsie” exposure while I’m sleeping.

I highly recommend this cheap fix for better sleep, and overall health!

Wifi Kill Switch

Did you know that wifi has negative health effects?

Yea, the science on the negative health impacts of RF (radiofrequency) radiation is real and however inconvenient, I suggest you not ignore it. It doesn’t just affect “sensitive people” who can “feel it”. It’s affecting your biology whether you know it or not.

I’m a big fan of wired ethernet internet (no wifi) in our homes. I find it makes a pretty profound impact on people’s vitality, mental health, and sleep.

That being said, if my patients do use WIFI, bluetooth, and smart devices, I recommend ALL OF THEM be turned off at night. It seems to have the most profound effects on health when we’re exposed to manmade radiofrequencies at night. And most of my patients say they sleep dramatically better when they turn off all radiofrequency devices at night.

This switch can make that really easy for you. Plug your wifi router into it, and just click a button from up to 100 feet away, in another room, when you’re ready to turn it off at night. You can get other outlets to plug your other smart devices into and click them off at bedtime too.

EMF Protecting Headphones

Did you know that it’s not good for your health to hold your phone to your head, wear bluetooth headphones, or regular headphones that transfer the radiation of the phone directly into your skull?

Yea, the science on the negative health impacts of RF (radiofrequency) radiation is real and however inconvenient, I suggest you not ignore it.

I use these headphones whenever headphones are needed.

As far as talking on the phone, I only talk on my cellphone on speakerphone with it several feet away from me, or with these headphones on (again with the phone several feet from me).

These produce an excellent listening experience, and I have now had my current pair of them for over 5 years with no signs of deterioration.

Blackout Cotton Sleep Mask

I am a HUGE fan of following the natural rhythms of sunlight and darkness as a foundation of health. Our entire biology is organized around the circadian rhythm produced by these two signals.

This is the sleep mask I have used for years to block out ambient light in the bedroom or from outside. It has these big cushy pads that cup your eyes, allow you to open your eyes with the mask on, but see only total darkness.

It stays on my head really well, and can be washed and dried.

I used to try to produce darkness with blackout curtains, and those are still nice to have in case it’s light outside at 5am when you need to pee, and you want to able to go back to sleep. Otherwise, this mask does the job of blocking out all the light when you’re actually sleeping.

Full Spectrum Lightbulb

I am a HUGE fan of following sunlight as a foundation of health. Our entire biology is organized around the circadian rhythm produced by sun exposure.

But when you need to be inside all day for work, you can still mimic sunlight with your lighting. This Full Spectrum bulb allows you to do just that during daytime hours. Just by flicking the light switch you can switch from a cool tone that mimics the peak sunlight hours to a super warm tone that mimics early morning and dusk.

It’s also a flicker-free bulb, which reduces eyestrain and promotes a calming envionment compared to traditional LED bulbs.

I think this an excellent bulb to have in your office, kitchen, and other areas where you spend time from dawn until dusk.

Red Light (No Blue Light) Night Light

This is my favorite no-blue-light night light.

I love it because it’s actually been tested, and there is no blue in the spectrum of light emitted. Also, you can use it in “always on” mode or in “motion-activated” mode with the flick of a little switch on the bottom.

It’s the only light I have on in the bathroom and kitchen at night.

Need a red light while traveling? This is perfect for that too.

I’ve had one for over 2 years and it’s still going strong.

Low Blue Light Bulb

I use a no-blue light after dark policy, and it has REALLY helped my sleep, but if that’s too intense for you, I would at least avoid This bulb is not blue-light free, but it is low in blue light. That means, it would appropriate lighting for the evening time before dark, when you want to send the message to your brain that night is coming soon, and it’s safe to start winding down. I think it’s a good idea to have a lamp with one of these bulbs in the kitchen and living room to use only in the evenings.

I love it because it’s actually been tested, and there is minimal blue in the spectrum of light emitted. It’s bright enough that you will still be able to see the room really well with the lamp turned on. And the bulbs last a long time.

Red Light (No Blue Light) Lamp

This is my favorite no-blue-light bedtime lamp.

I love it because it’s actually been tested, and there is no blue in the spectrum of light emitted. Also, it works plugged in or on a battery. Power goes out in the middle of the night? No problem. Want to move it to a different part of the room without finding another plug? No problem. Need a red light while traveling? This is it. I’ve had one for over 2 years and it’s still going strong.

It comes in white or black and the head swivels to point in the direction you want.
